The recent devastation of the Nymboida fires touched all walks of life. Walking through the scorched bushland, we encounter no animal life. The livestock are wary keeping close to their homesteads, and the wildlife appears to have been decimated. No birds sing- only the cicadas, fill the air with a pulsing shriek. They're shells blanket the bases of trees after they emerge from the cooked ground to breed and die.
